What We Do
Our goal is to shine a light on cruel and unusual punishment within the prison system.
External Reporting
When you submit a report of abuse or rights violations, you can be sure that there will be no retaliation from staff or other inmates, as our external reporting system is completely independent of any institution. Your report is kept private, unless you agree otherwise and only with your consent, where it might then be used as part of a larger class action lawsuit in the future.
Monitor the Situation
While we may not take action as a result of an individual report, we will continue to gather reports from other incarcerated individuals. That information is collected and used to identify patterns of abuse that might exist within certain institutions, or even among certain individuals within an institution.
Legal Action
When enough evidence is reported to confidently proceed with a legal action, we will gather the reports to create a larger complaint of abuse. This complaint may then be forwarded to an organization equipped to handle litigation, such as ACLU. A possible path to relief for victims would be through a class action lawsuit, where the evidence is presented to a jury. If the outcome is favorable, the court would then demand a stop to the behavior which led to the complaint.
The true measure of our character is how we treat the poor, the disfavored, the accused, the incarcerated, and the condemned" - Bryan Stevenson
